Q: What does sustainability mean to us for Aerabo™ products?

Our tradition of producing milk from grass fed cows on family farms in the fertile Golden Valleys of Munster means our operations are already some of the most sustainable in the world. Our abundance of water and rain, nutrient-rich grass and the perfect dairy farming climate allows us to produce the highest quality, and most sustainable milk, naturally. But we don’t stop there. Sustainability is not just a policy for us – it is a culture that is engrained throughout our entire organisation. We constantly research and improve our practices, from the farm, right through the production and processing chain, to the customers.

Q: What does Bord Bia accreditation mean?

The Grass Fed Standard for Irish dairy was developed as a response to market needs and provides a way for Irish dairy processors to make a verified claim that their product has been sourced from Irish grass fed cows. Feedback from Irish dairy companies selling and finding new markets for dairy products suggests that it is no longer acceptable to just declare that a product is grass fed, the market requires evidence to support the claim.

Q: Why do cows only consume 95% grass and clover?

Our cows spend the majority of their time grazing in outdoor pastures. The nutrient-rich grass and clover provides them with all of the nutrition they need. During the winter months, our cows are moved indoors to give them shelter. During this time indoors, our cows consume silage from grass cut over the summer months and a small amount of concentrates, which is where the other 5% comes in.

Q: What does grass fed mean?

The term ‘Grass Fed’ for dairy products means that the diet of the cow is composed of at least 90% grass or grass forage on a fresh weight basis. The average Grass-Fed figure for a group of herds that constitute a pool of milk for primary or secondary processing must achieve an average of 95% on a fresh weight basis. Q: Where are the farms that produce the milk for Aerabo™ located?

Our farms, which produce the milk used to make the milk powder for Aerabo™ products are located in Ireland’s historic dairy region, known as ‘The Golden Valleys’ in the south of Ireland.
